Where To Watch Big Train

Big Train
Big Train

Bridging the gap between the 90s and the 2000s, Big Train brought surreal comedy to the mainstream when it first aired on BBC 2 back in 1998, as well as helping to launch the careers of the likes of Simon Pegg, Kevin Eldon and Julia Davis in the process. Despite boasting just two seasons of six episodes apiece, the sketch show from the creators of Father Ted has left an indelible mark on Britain’s comedic landscape.

Part of the show’s strength is its utter commitment to every sketch’s ridiculous and absurd premise, the dramatic talents of its cast often in evidence as much as their comedic ones. Big Show’s exceptional performers, including Mark Heap, Kevin Eldon, Julia Davis, Amelia Bullmore and Simon Pegg, show such versatility and commitment that they often elevate sketches to another level of brilliance. Skits involving 80s pop sensation Darryl Hall and John Oates visiting a deprived council estate or reimagining Florence Nightingale as a foul-mouthed, hard-drinking nurse are unparalleled in their marriage of the bizarre with the believable.

Aside from a few skits uploaded to YouTube (never the most reliable or stable of homes for clips looking to circumnavigate copyright laws), tracking down Big Train is no easy task. Still, one of the generation’s most influential and important comedies can still be found, as long as you’re prepared to look in the right places

Watch Big Show In The UK

Despite being a BBC production, Big Train’s age likely precludes it from still showing on iPlayer. The influential sketch show can be found, however, on British-centric streaming platform Britbox, while physical DVD copies can be purchased on amazon.co.uk.

Watch Big Train In The US

Aside from Britbox (which is available to US residents), there is nowhere else one can legally watch Big Train online. The DVD is available at amazon.com.
