Westworld’s James Marsden To Star In Live-Action Sonic The Hedgehog Movie

It was only inevitable that we would be getting a live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie at one point, with Variety reporting that James Marsden, who is known for his roles in X-Men and Westworld, has signed on to star, although no details were given about who he will play. Marsden is currently the only confirmed cast member, and we don’t even know who will voice Sonic at this point, although we should be hearing more announcements soon.

Jeff Fowler, who received an Oscar nomination for his 2004 short film Gopher Broke, will direct, with Deadpool’s Tim Miller and Neal H. Moritz of Fast and Furious fame both serving as producers. Dmitri Johnson, Dan Jevons, and Oren Uziel provided the screenplay.

Since the release of the first game on the Sega Genesis back in 1991, Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has gone on to sell over 100 million copies worldwide, and whilst there are conflicting figures as to the exact number of Sonic games to have been sold, there’s no denying that it has been one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. We’ll find out if the blue Erinaceinae’s commercial success transfers to the big screen when Paramount, a studio suffering from a severe string of flops, releases Sonic the Hedgehog in theaters on November 15, 2019.
