Uncharted Director Amy Hennig Leaves EA As Her Star Wars Game Is Put On Hold

Electronic Arts

Amy Hennig, who directed the first three Uncharted games during her time at Naughty Dog, has revealed to Eurogamer that she has left EA, and even worse, the Star Wars game she was working on for the publisher has been canned.

Hennig, who was speaking from the Gamelab conference in Barcelona, confirmed that she officially departed EA in January. Regarding her Star Wars game, she was quoted as saying “I’m not doing anything Star Wars. And, who knows what the future may hold, but that project is on the shelf now.”

We know that the untitled Star Wars project was being developed by Dead Space’s Visceral Games, who were closed by EA last October, so it’s probably safe to assume that the game was cancelled around that time. We also know very little about the game in question, other than that it would have been an Uncharted-style single player adventure set in the Star Wars galaxy.

This is a devastating blow for Star Wars fans, especially considering that the franchise has been plagued by a series of video game-related woes over the past several years. Firstly, the promising titles Battle of the Sith Lords and 1313 were both cancelled as a result of the Disney purchase of Lucasfilm, with the closure of LucasArts happening shortly after. Then, 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront lacked a campaign mode, which, considering that Disney had just retconned the Expanded Universe, was a sorely missed opportunity to add a new story into the slowly growing new canon. Then there was the whole gambling controversy surrounding Battlefront II last year, which should serve as a warning to any other publishers hoping to milk their consumers dry. At least we have Respawn’s Jedi: Fallen Order to look forward to, unless EA manage to screw that up too.

Although she didn’t go into too much detail about her current endeavors, Hennig did reveal that she is in the process of setting up her own studio, which she hopes will focus on VR projects. With Hennig being such an influential figure in the gaming industry, we truly wish her the best of luck with whatever road she ends up going down.
