Now that TJP’s non-compete clause has come to an end, he has booked himself in almost every promotion he possibly can. The winner of the first-ever WWE Cruiserweight Classic was released from his WWE contract in February of this year, after finding little career progression as part of the 205 Live roster. Now that TJP has embraced the independent life once again, he’s enjoying high-profile matches in promotions such as Impact Wrestling, Empire Wrestling Federation, and now, New Japan Pro Wrestling as part of the 2019 Super J Cup.
Last taking place in 2016, the Super J Cup tournament brings together the very best junior heavyweights for three nights of high-octane action. The winner is naturally in line for a shot at the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion at a later date. Last time, we saw NXT’s Kushida go the distance and win the whole thing. Who knows who could win this year’s, with now TJP, SHO and Dragon Lee all confirmed to be part of the line-up.

With the G1 Climax in full swing, you could say NJPW are on a hot streak with their tournaments. The widely regarded most consistently brilliant wrestling seems to manifest itself within New Japan’s marathons, so we hope you’re not too burnt out by August.
