THQ Nordic Buys Alone In The Dark License

THQ Nordic, who are becoming known as the saviour of dormant mid-size IPs, have snaffled up the license to the progenitor of survival horror, Alone in the Dark.

Alone in the Dark has been rather cruelly treated in recent years with the abominable Alone in the Dark: Illumination more or less sinking the ship for good. Atari have not really understood the license (or have just been willfully ignorant, which would explain the horrible noise of Illumination), so here’s hoping that THQ Nordic are able to capture the spirit of its early nineties incarnation and make some waves with it again.

In other THQ news, the publisher also revealed that they had acquired the rights to Act of War: an RTS series that never particularly reached the heights of its peers. There have been two games released in the franchise so far: High Treason and Direct Action, which both sound like movies starring Liam Neeson that are coming straight to DVD soon.

There have been no details released on what to expect from the future of these two acquisitions, though THQ Nordic may be hard pushed to go down their customary remaster route. Alone in the Dark hasn’t been at least enjoyable since at least 2008, while Act of War hasn’t been relevant since 2005. Here’s hoping we see Edward Carnby have a hair flop-off with Leon S. Kennedy when Alone in the Dark returns to the peak of its powers.

In other news, I was just thinking yesterday about how Alone in the Dark should be revived with a publisher like THQ Nordic, so I will take all of the plaudits for this, thanks.
