It’s been revealed that The Last Of Us Part II has become Sony’s biggest ever PS4 launch, with its physical sales alone beating the launch weekend sales of the console’s previous fastest selling exclusive, Uncharted 4.

The news comes from GamesIndustry.biz, who also note that these sales don’t include digital sales, so it’s likely that the game’s launch is even bigger than these figures would suggest. Part II also sold way more than its predecessor, with 76% more sales than the first game. It’s even dethroned Animal Crossing: New Horizons, with 40% more sales during launch.

Elsewhere, the top 10 chart for last week’s sales contains some familiar favourites, including FIFA 20, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Minecraft and the ever-present GTA V. Here’s the full top 10:

  1. The Last of Us Part II
  2. Ring Fit Adventure
  3. FIFA 20
  4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  5. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare
  6. GTA V
  7. Minecraft (Switch)
  8. 51 Worldwide Games
  9. Pokémon Sword
  10. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

The Last of Us Part II is out now exclusively for the PlayStation 4. From our review:

“In trying to subvert expectations, The Last of Us Part II discards the best aspects of its predecessor to provide a rote revenge tale that is ill-considered, ending on a note that makes everything — all the violence, all the loss, all the struggle — feel utterly, hopelessly pointless.”
