Mr. Robot Game Teased By Telltale

If you’re one of the few remaining gamers out there who actually prefers to spend money on an actual finished product rather than something chopped into rushed little pieces which are made available at separate dates, then brace yourself: Telltale are now working on a Mr. Robot game. Or at least, they’ve teased that they are.

They updated their Facebook and Twitter accounts with a short in-universe video from E-Crop, the evil company in NBC’s popular sci-fi show, accompanied by the text “the new E Corp Messaging App for your iOS or Android Mobile device will be available from August 17.” So yeah, expect to hear more about this next week.

The text seems to indicate that it will be a mobile title, which would be a strange move for Telltale, but let’s wait and see what they’ve got cooking.

In the last few years, Telltale have caused a huge shift in the industry towards episodic games. And while I appreciate the way that they implement cinematic narratives into their games, I still feel that, when combined with the fact that many AAA publishers releasing barely finished products for full price tags (the $130 edition of Battlefield 1 won’t even include the actual game, which you have to purchase separately), the rise in episodic games has ultimately been detrimental to the industry because it makes people more accustomed to paying for something that just simply isn’t finished, and also encourages less effort from the developers.

Having said that, however, Mr. Robot is huge right now, so it’s about damn time we got a game adaptation. And Telltale have a habit on jumping onto anything that taps into the zeitgeist, it comes as no surprise that they’ve nabbed the license.
