When you woke up this morning, what did you expect today’s news to consist of? Did it include Tamagotchi? It’s been announced that the little bastards are making a comeback next month.
Though only a US release has been confirmed, it would be reasonable to expect a launch over here in the UK too. These new Tamagotchi units will go on sale next month for the low price of $15. Not a bad price to pay to find out how often you’ll forget to look after your virtual pet. They have feelings too, you know. Probably.
This event is to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Tamagotchi, and will be pretty sim- sorry, 20 years? Fuck me, I’m old. Anyway, the Tamagotchi themselves will be fairly similar to what you remember originally. No fancy upgrades, expect an LCD screen and a couple of buttons. The toy itself has been shrunk though, so it has that going for it.
After this news, I’m expecting lots of hipster 20-30 year olds queuing up for one so they can remember those halcyon days. Just remember to punch the guy in the office who has one and steal his. Then it’ll be just like being back on the playground.
