Pretty much the only Final Fantasy game that hasn’t been ported and remastered to Galbadia and back, Final Fantasy VIII has finally been remembered by Square Enix with a remaster due soon.

Announced for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch, the remaster will arrive sometime in 2019, as announced at Square Enix’s E3 2019 presser. No exact date has been detailed just yet.

While 7, 9, 10, 11, and 12 (it’s too early to be typing out individual Roman numerals) have been ported so much they can consider themselves sailors, 8 has been the mistreated anomaly this generation. This news will finally bring it in-line with its cousins.

Final Fantasy VIII had the unenviable task of following up VII, regarded by many as the best game in entire franchise. For comparison’s sake, it’s The Dark Knight Rises to VII’s The Dark Knight: it’s still a good movie, just perhaps not quite on the same level.

With some very hazy childhood memories to clear up (I remember Squall’s fantastic jacket and weapon most vividly), I will be looking forward to playing Final Fantasy VIII later this year. How about you?
