Everyone’s favourite big red echidna, Knuckles, has been spotted on set during the production of Sonic The Hedgehog, confirming that the iconic trio of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles will be working together in this film. What’s Going On With Sonic 2?
Not much is known yet about the full plot of Sonic 2, aside from the fact that Sonic would be teaming up with human friends Tom and Maddie (James Marsden and Tika Sumpter respectively) once again to take down the evil Dr. Robotnik. It had been rumoured for a while that this film would feature Knuckles, especially considering the teaser trailer confirmed that Tails would make an appearance. These set photos make it apparent that both are pretty important to the film.
Who Is Knuckles Again?
Knuckles The Echidna was first introduced in Sonic The Hedgehog 3 for the Mega Drive/Genesis in 1994. As the guardian of Angel Island’s Master Emerald, Knuckles is tricked by Dr. Robotnik into believing that Sonic is going to steal the Emerald. The two inevitably work out their differences and have been allies ever since. It’ll be interesting to see if Sonic 2 borrows from any of that established lore for its story.
When Is Sonic 2 Scheduled To Release?
Sonic 2 is set to release in cinemas in the UK and US on April 8th, 2022. Whether it’ll be another hit like the first film, which became one of the most successful video game movie adaptations in history despite launching at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, remains to be seen.
