Saints Row: Can You Play Cross-Play?

No parleying with the rival gang.

Perhaps the biggest core appeal of the Saints Row series is how, ever since Saints Row 2, it’s always championed co-op play, allowing you and a friend to cause untold amounts of havoc in the pursuit of your criminal empire achieving a full citywide takeover. The Saints Row reboot is no exception, allowing two players to complete the game together in full drop-in, drop-out co-op play.

While the ability to play in co-op is nice, cross-play has become a lot more prevalent since Saints Row’s original heyday, with gamers more used to the idea of playing together even if they’re on separate platforms. With that in mind, many are likely curious to know if Saints Row has any form of cross-play.

The answer is no, Saints Row doesn’t have cross-play between different platform families, meaning PlayStation players won’t be able to join up with their friends on Xbox or PC to take over Santo Ileso, and vice versa. Saints Row does include cross-generational play, meaning players on the same console family will be able to play together, but that’s it.

Cross-generational play works much the same as regular co-op does, with players able to invite their friends either on the main menu or while in-game to activate drop-in, drop-out co-op. Mission progress is then made for the host player, but any money and XP the joining player earns will be taken back into their own world.

It’s possible that Saints Row might get cross-play in a future update, especially as it would allow players from all platforms to be able to showcase their creations to the entire world. As it stands however, the community will have to remain fragmented. Still, at least you can invite friends on your own platform to kick Santo Ileso’s collective ass, together.

Saints Row is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X & S.
