Jagex have announced that RuneScape is available to download from Steam today, with the official Steam release introducing a variety of Steam achievements, badges, emoticons and trading cards, along with some Steam exclusive content to boot. Best of all, its free-to-play, though there’s some paid benefits if you’re interested.

What’s So Special About The Steam Version?

The Steam version of RuneScape will include three tiers of membership that offer various cosmetics and in-game items to improve your experience. The Starter pack includes a month of membership, 15 treasure hunter keys and a Forge Goblin Warhammer, while the Standard pack has 3 months of membership, 50 keys, a Forge Goblin Outfit and the official soundtrack. Lastly, the Max Pack includes a year of membership, all Forge Goblin cosmetics and an exclusive pet, two cosmetic tokens, 50 extra Bank Spaces, 75 keys and a daily key to round it all off.

Why Is RuneScape Coming To Steam Now?

Jagex are looking to bring more players to the game in celebration of the game’s 20th anniversary, though the game has boasted more than 285 million player accounts across all platforms, with the highest number of player memberships recorded this year. Naturally, RuneScape will support cross-platform play and players can link their existing account to the Steam version to carry on playing with their already established character. Better still, progress will be saved across all platforms.

Ryan Ward, RuneScape’s Executive Producer, said the following about the announcement: “I’m so excited that RuneScape is now available on Steam, bringing one of the world’s largest MMORPGs, to one of the world’s ultimate gaming destinations. It connects us to a huge community of PC gamers. Together, we will welcome them to millions in our RuneScape community and show them what we have to offer as a living game. It has been an absolute pleasure to work in partnership with Steam and to create fun, unique content for Steam’s worldwide community. This is just the beginning of bringing RuneScape to a wider audience”.
