Report: Judgment Sequel Seemingly In The Works (UPDATED)

Judgment 2: Justice Boogaloo.

UPDATE: Riku Rose, the reporter who broke the Judgment 2 news on The Tojo Dojo, has responded to our email. Firstly, they’d like to clarify that in the video, the fake leaker they’re referring to isn’t talking about Judgment 2, but Yakuza Ishin coming to the West. My mistake on that one, sorry.

As for the Judgment 2 news, Riku wasn’t at liberty to reveal the information that was shared with The Tojo Dojo, as naturally they want to protect their source’s identity. They said: “It’s annoying but I can’t really share much more without giving away my source. We did our background checks on the person like we do with every tip we get and it checks out. They provided us with evidence and everything checked out.”

It’s perhaps not enough to convince the more skeptical about the idea of Judgment 2, but again, with the first game being a success for Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, a sequel was likely inevitable. Tojo Dojo are putting a lot on the line reporting on this news, especially if does turn out to be fake, so hopefully we’ll hear something more concrete regarding Judgment 2 in the near future. As for now, be sure to use your own “Judgment”.

Ha, do you get it? See what I did there?

ORIGINAL POST: According to a report from The Tojo Dojo, a news website dedicated to all things Yakuza and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio related, SEGA and RGG Studio are reportedly working on a sequel to Judgment, one that is said to be darker than its predecessor. You can check out the outlet discussing their report in the YouTube video at the top of the page.

A New Judgment Game Is Coming?

Recently, SEGA of Japan filed trademarks for Lost Judgment, which Tojo Dojo notes that they didn’t initially believe to be related to the Judgment franchise. Their reasoning was the fact that the game is called Judge Eyes in Japan, so why would SEGA of Japan trademark these working titles when the series has a completely different name? Push Square also came to the same conclusion in their news report on the trademark.

However, an anonymous source reached out to Tojo Dojo to confirm that the trademark was in fact a working title for Judgment’s sequel, along with Judgment: Seize The Truth. The trademark might make it seem like Lost Judgment is the final title, but that hasn’t been confirmed.

What Other Details Were Shared?

The sequel will focus once again on Yagami and his sidekick Kaito, with other characters from the original game also returning. The report also makes note that the storyline for the game would be much darker than the first game. Considering the fact that the first game wasn’t exactly all slapstick and smiles, especially in comparison to the Yakuza series, Judgment 2 could be quite an intense game.

Is This Report Accurate?

It seems to be, or at least, Tojo Dojo are stating they’ve received enough confidential information to verify this report. In the video above, reporter Riku Rose mentions that the Tojo Dojo has had the same person message the outlet every week, without fail, with some fake information regarding a potential Judgment 2. Seems like this other anonymous tipster actually has something legitimate to offer.

On top of that, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio are gearing up for a remastered version of Judgment, set to launch on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X | S. A remaster like that feels like a good way to drum up interest into a potential sequel, but that’s pure speculation on our part.

Personally, I feel like a site dedicated to all things Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio would ruin their reputation printing any misinformation of this kind, so you’d think there’d be some truth to this. However, some on Twitter have noted that Tojo Dojo have made mistakes with their reporting, prompting Tojo Dojo to respond that this is only the second time that they’ve received a tip-off themselves, the first time being about the limited edition of Yakuza: Like A Dragon which was ultimately true.

Judgment was a pretty big success for the studio, so there’s a high chance for a sequel, but that being said, the differences in trademarks do add a layer of doubt. Make sure to keep that pinch of salt handy, just in case. We’ve also reached out to Tojo Dojo to see if they’ll share what they know with us, and will update accordingly.
