PS4 Games Counted For Half of All Physical Game Sales in the UK in 2017

Uncharted Lost Legacy

According to GfK Chart-Track and the Association for UK Interactive Entertainment, over half of all physical game sales in the UK in 2017 have been for games on PS4. 50.2% of physical sales were snapped up for Sony’s black box; Xbox One came in second with a significant drop to 31.6%.

This should come as no surprise to anyone who’s been tracking the success of the PS4. It’s the biggest-selling console of this generation by some distance and is on track to outstrip the PS3 pretty soon. It’s unlikely that it will ever match the PS2’s success, however.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

It’s been a big year for PS4 exclusives, with the likes of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy spending consecutive weeks at the top of sales charts. Other PS4-only games, like Horizon Zero Dawn, WipeOut: Omega Collection, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, also topped the charts over the past year.

However, it’s worth bearing in mind that digital sales are growing, so there might not be that big a disparity between platforms as these figures suggest. 2018 will be a more interesting tussle than this year as Xbox One will be bringing a few more games to the exclusive party while PS4 will finally release the games it teased back in 2016, such as Days Gone and God of War. The Switch, meanwhile, will likely continue to grow, but it has a considerable distance to go to catch up on physical sales for either of its two main competitors.
