PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Topples DOTA 2 For Steam Concurrent Players Record

PUBG

Some said it couldn’t be done. Bluehole Studio said “fuck it, we can do it”. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has broken the highest concurrent player record on Steam.

Previously, the record stood at 1,291,328 players, which was held by DOTA 2. While PUBG has been smashing DOTA 2 as far as current players is concerned, this weekend saw Bluehole Studio’s smash hit surpass the record, reaching a new all-time high of 1,348,374 players.

Despite only being released for six months, the game has currently sold over 10 million copies on Steam, with an Xbox One release also in the pipeline. The coffers over at Bluehole Studio must have been upgraded recently to a Scrooge McDuck-esque money tower, with Brendan Greene diving into this huge pile of money every day before work.

This recent milestone is a testament to how much the game has resonated with the gaming community. The simple battle royale premise is so accommodating to multiple strategies that that game can appeal to a wide variety of gamers. Though this has been the biggest record broken by the game so far, it’s highly unlikely it’ll be the last.
