Overwatch’s 2018 Lunar Event Starts This Week

Year of the Rooster Overwatch

Set to begin this Thursday the 8th of February 2018, Overwatch’s seasonal Lunar Event will be kicking off with a traditional bang, themed around the Chinese Year of the Dog.

Though we don’t know too much about the event yet, we know a few things, and can also predict a couple of others. Firstly, we know that last year’s Year of the Rooster skins (themed around the traditional Chinese story Journey to the West) will be offered at a discounted price for players, perfect if you didn’t manage to bag them all in 2017. Next, we don’t know what time the patch will go live, but Overwatch’s previous event patch history suggests that it will begin at around one or two P.M. E.T this Thursday.

Last year, the capture the flag inspired “Capture the Rooster” game mode was incredibly popular with players, so much so that the game mode was added to the Overwatch Arcade. We don’t know if it will be offered again this year (with a doggo flag instead of a rooster themed one), or if we’ll be given another new game mode entirely, but it’s not too crazy to assume that the mode may at least be prominently featured in the Arcade for some time during the 2018 Lunar Event.

There’s no details on cosmetics yet, but it’s safe to assume that we’ll be offered the traditional outpouring of skins, sprays, emote, icons and highlights, as Blizzard has never let us go without, even if the Hanzo mains had to wait a long time for a skin that wasn’t “Hanzo, but blue”.

There’s currently no official end date set for the event, but previous event lengths suggest that the seasonal event will be ending at the beginning of March if we’re lucky, or the end of February if we’re not.

What do you hope to see in the new event? Are there any skins you didn’t get last year that you want to bag this time around? Let us know in the comments below!
