Pennywise, is that you?

The official trailer for Alter’s new movie Villains was recently released. It looks chaotic, messy, and loads of fun. Bill Skarsgård is joined by a talented cast comprising of Maika Monroe, Jeffrey Donovan and Kyra Sedgwick. While Skarsgård might be the main draw of the movie especially after his successful portrayal of Pennywise in IT, Donovan and Sedgwick look absolutely captivating as we sense the seething mania hiding beneath the glossy exterior of their suburban home.

Lovers Mickey (Skarsgård) and Jules (Monroe) are on the run, and when their car breaks down, they have no choice but to go searching for a new one. They find themselves in the home of George (Donovan) and Gloria (Sedgwick), who despite their placid appearance, turn out to be the real villains of the film. This is something I assumed based on the trailer and the captive child they have in their basement, but the child also seems a bit crazy (she bites Mickey’s hand), so it’s hard to tell if they are the good or bad guys.

The film is directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, who also penned the screenplay. This is not their first rodeo together, having worked on the 2015 movie Body together as well. Body didn’t fare so well, only scoring a mere 42% on Rotten Tomatoes. Let’s hope Villains proves to be a different kettle of fish.

Villains will make its fiendish appearance on our screens come September 20, 2019.
