No, A Resident Evil Netflix Series Is Not Happening

Resident Evil Netflix series

A lot of Resident Evil fans have been frothing at the mouth over a rumour that’s been circling around over the last few days.

As the story goes, Netflix are in the early stages of bringing a faithful adaptation of Capcom’s iconic horror series to the small screen. It will reportedly follow the canon of the games and will start things off either in the Spencer Mansion or the train seen in Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 0 respectively.

It’s also a total crock of shit.

The rumour was started by a website/pit of shite ironically called TruthiMedia. According to this website, which has a grand total of five likes on Facebook, they have “insider” sources. Nine times out of ten, if a small site attributes their info to someone on the inside, you can usually translates that as “something we just made up”, or in this case “we know a guy who knows a guy who knows a dog that once ate a Netflix gift card”.

As dishonourable as it may be, it’s actually quite smart – they’ve put themselves on the map thanks to the popularity of Resident Evil 7 and how badly fans want to see something like it happen. It’s even been picked up by far more reputable sites and has been spread far and wide on social media, despite the teaser image being a mock-up from Eddie Murphy’s The Haunted Mansion.

Looking at the rest of the website, it’s clear that these people are just making stuff up or throwing words into a blender and seeing what gets vomited out. Just recently, they have published “articles” about Selena Gomez being pregnant, Putin working with Hillary, and Kanye West trying to rush the stage at Trump’s inauguration. They will write just about anything for a few clicks. Either that or they’re satirical, but I spent an hour on the website and didn’t know what they are.

See what I mean?

While a Resident Evil Netflix series would make us all hungry for Jill sandwiches, I would hold fire on getting excited until it’s officially confirmed. According to Variety back in 2014, a series was on the cards but has since fallen off the face of the earth.

This is one of those rare times when fake news is actually fake news.
