In the words of Ren & Stimpy, “Happy Happy Joy Joy”! All our favourite 90s cartoons are going to hit our home screens once again as Nickelodeon is set to launch new channel dubbed The Splat. We can’t wait to watch it, after a trailer appeared seemingly confirming  shows such as Hey Arnold!, Rugrats, Rocko’s Modern Life, Angry Beavers and The Wild Thornberryssmashing!

Hopefully, this is only the tip of the iceberg and we may see some new episodes and/or the addition of other loved shows such as Clarissa Explains It All, Sister Sister, Kenan & Kel and Saved By The Bell as opposed to just cartoons, although Nickelodeon is being a little quiet on that front for the time being and no date has been set for its appearance.

Update: The channel will allegedly launch this October.

Whilst most of us 90’s kids are in our 20’s now, is that going to stop us from watching cartoons? Of course it isn’t. Finally, we will be able to share with the young ‘uns some of the greatest shows ever made and stop feeling ancient and outdated when we make a silly reference, like one of the most hilariously irritating lines in children’s television history: “I. Put the screeeew. In the TUNA!” – Kenan & Kel.

A wise move from Nickelodeon, as I’d imagine that many of us have tried to re-live our childhood hunting down these shows in a not-entirely-legal fashion. Customers of the appropriate Sky, Virgin and TalkTalk packages will presumably be receiving the channel for free, with no need to install that old-fashioned cable box. Sadly, it was probably a lot cheaper. Only the super cool kids had Sky back then, with companies such as Comcast supplying the basic package which was affordable for most.
