Microsoft Switching Its Events To Digital-Only Until July 2021

Not surprising, really.

It’s been revealed that Microsoft will be switching all of its events, whether internal or external, to digital-only all the way up until July 2021. The news was originally broken on Twitter, as Microsoft issued guidance regarding their annual March 2021 MVP Summit, a now-cancelled tech event held at company HQ.

The news was then confirmed in a statement to Eurogamer from Microsoft, who said the following: “In light of the challenges presented by Covid-19, we are adjusting our event calendar and strategy. For the remainder of 2020 we are embracing the opportunity to experiment with new platforms to provide our partners, customers and developers the highest quality, digital-first experiences.”

Eurogamer have noted that this policy change relates to events that have been organised by Microsoft themselves, so that’ll likely relate to events such as the follow-up to X019 and any Xbox Series X events. However, this doesn’t necessarily relate to events hosted by third-party organisers, with Gamescom 2020 cited as an example. Should Gamescom be given the go-ahead, it’s possible that Microsoft will make an appearance there.
