Mario Kart Live

Alright, so this might have been the most exciting announcement from today’s Nintendo Direct presentation. Nintendo have revealed Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which allows you to bring the racing of the Mario Kart series into the real world using augmented reality. It looks like a lot of fun, and you can check it out for yourself in the trailer below.

Mario Kart Live utilises a real kart, complete with a camera on top, with players controlling the kart via an app on their Nintendo Switch. Players will be able to place multiple gates around their home in order to create their dream track layout. Naturally, you’ll be able to place your own obstacles, but the kart will also respond to in-game boosts and any items that affect them.

Players will be able to racing against Koopalings as part of the game’s Grand Prix mode, or race together with up to four players, which will naturally require extra Nintendo Switches and Karts. Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit will come in both Mario and Luigi bundles, and will cost roughly $99.99, which isn’t bad when you consider that it’s a more imaginative version of Scalextric.
