Latest Nintendo Switch Update Introduces Gamecube Controller Support

Those wily devils over at Nintendo have just given Switch owners something brilliant with no hype or build-up: the recently released Update 4.00 now introduces GameCube controller support for the Nintendo Switch. Seems like Nintendo are still finding ways to utilise the greatest controller ever made.

Though it does require the Wii U controller adapter in order to function, the Gamecube controller seemingly works with any Nintendo Switch game. If you’re looking to experience Super Mario Sunshine nostalgia whilst playing the soon to be released Odyssey, this should be music to your ears.

Personally, as someone who is looking to purchase the Nintendo Switch at some point sooner rather than later, this news is fantastic. Though I’d probably get used to the Joy-Con controllers after a while, to be able to start playing Nintendo’s latest and greatest games with a controller I’m already familiar with is immeasurably preferable.

Of course, this has mounted speculation that Nintendo are on the cusp of announcing something Super Smash Bros related for the Switch, as the Gamecube controller has almost become synonymous with the Smash Community. May we remember the many controllers that were spiked into the ground by salty pro Smash players. Bet they wish they didn’t break their controllers after this announcement.

Whilst it’s too early to start the fuelling the Smash Bros for Nintendo Switch rumour mill, this news is certainly welcomed. Dust off those Gamecube controllers, and let us know in the comments what Switch games you’re hoping to play.
