Kingdom Hearts: VR Experience Launches On PS4

Experience Goofy's face in terrifying three dimensions.

Kingdom Hearts

The free Kingdom Hearts: VR Experience has been released today on the PlayStation Store. Announced by Sony at their 2018 E3 conference, the free download first released in Japan on Christmas Day last year and had been heavily delayed before now finally releasing in the West.

Currently, the VR experience only offers a glimpse into the cockpit of the Gummi Ship and of the golden beaches in Destiny Island, with more worlds promised to be “coming soon.” Throughout visiting each of these destinations, players can interact with some familiar faces and be treated to a cinematic music video of Sora’s memories from past titles, which are sure to tug on the heartstrings of returning fans.

While it won’t give you the same freedoms as a main Kingdom Hearts title, the VR experience offers a unique perspective into some of its worlds. And for players recently finished with the series, they are given the chance to revisit some of their favourite moments.

The entire experience is fairly short, lasting around 10 minutes. But, fans of the series with access to a VR headset are sure to relish the opportunity to immerse themselves in some good old nostalgia. Kingdom Hearts: VR Experience can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store now as a 3.25GB update.

From our Kingdom Hearts 3 review:

Despite its flaws, Kingdom Hearts 3 provides a more than fitting ending to Sora’s chapter and its presentation will leave a lasting impression on long-time fans. With careful lessons learned from its past, Kingdom Hearts’ future has never been so bright.
