Juce – Call You Out – Review

Juce

Matt Warrilow reviews a song he actually likes. Christ.

Good news everyone, the sun is out! So it’s that time of year where we all pretend it’s summer, even though it’s not for bloody months. It’s the time for sitting in the park, wearing a t-shirt and sunglasses when you’re actually freezing cold and if you’re not trying to avoid wasps, you’re trying to get rid of drunken tramps that want to befriend you.

The time of year when instead of sneakily try to check out the bods of the opposite sex without looking like an utter mega perv, you’re envious of that person’s jumper that they’re wearing. Whether it’s summer or not, it could easily be soundtracked by Juce, and ‘Call you Out’ in particular.

Juce

Sure, it’d be easy to compare Juce to other 3-piece female bands; SWV, Eternal (for a bit), Sugababes, etc. but Juce don’t deserve to just be lumped in with every other girl-band. They’ve followed the likes of Solange Knowles and Blood Orange, producing intelligent, and more importantly catchy, pop music. In a world filled with tiring electro-house or trap influenced pop, this really is a breath of fresh air and sure, the 90s influence is laid on thick, but when it sounds this great, does it really matter?

Juce

After all, this is the type of song that ALL the girls will dance to if you put it on at a house party. So with this in mind, this is a message to all the lonely, single men out there. Everyone else can stop reading.

Everybody else gone? Good, now huddle up and listen closely.

Get yourself a Kangol hat, put on some dungarees, and burn yourself a copy of this song. Why? Because you’ll look fly as fuck gate-crashing some party, wandering straight up to the CD player, throwing away whatever boring house shit is playing, and popping this on.

green man

Because trust me, once that drum beat kicks in, all the girls will dance, everyone will ask ‘who is this?’ and you get to tell them it’s a band that they’ve probably never heard of. They’ll love it. They’ll love you. And in one single, simple action, you’ve managed to become the king of the party, whilst bringing Kangol hats and dungarees back into fashion.

Party God

I’m pretty sure Juce didn’t attempt to market this song to this audience, or for this reason but will they mind? After all, they have just put out what can only be considered the best pop song of the not-quite-summer.
