New Independence Day: Resurgence Trailer Revealed

Independence Day Resurgence

Welcome to Earth, again.

20th Century Fox have dropped the second trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence and it is exactly what you were expecting.

Plenty of iconic buildings are destroyed (“they like to go for the landmarks”, quips Jeff Goldblum), whilst jets dogfight with alien craft and Bill Pullman gives speeches, which aren’t quite as good as in the original.

Indeed, pretty much everyone from the original returns, with Will Smith being the most notable exception (he reportedly was reluctant to do another sci-fi movie after the critical and commercial failure of After Earth).

Don’t worry though, his character’s son (played by Jesse Usher) is on hand to to honour his dead father’s memory. Although there is no indication he will have the same predilection for chomping on cigars, though we strongly suspect he will, at some point, punch an alien in the face.

Set exactly 20 years after the original, events again take place on that particular holiday. Whilst the people of earth have rebuilt and incorporated recovered alien technology into the civilisation, they are once again facing extinction from the alien invaders.

If you’re looking for for some high-minded intellectual fodder, then this obviously isn’t it. If you want to see stuff blow up and Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation looking like a whacked-out hippy, then you’ve come to the right place.
