Resident Evil 7 has been quietly bubbling away on the hype barometer since it was revealed at E3 2016. We’ve seen some more gameplay with the Lantern playthrough from Gamescom, but this accidental slip from the ESRB reveals a whole more more.
The main character of Resident Evil 7 will be Ethan – his wife was playable in the recent demo. She’s also missing. It’s your job to find her and not get decapitated by demented rednecks, otherwise known as the Booth family.

The ESRB rating information goes into some grisly detail about what to expect from the game. It will include arm dismemberment via chainsaw, and a couple of rather grim shovel attacks. One causes a knee to be dislodged and the other causes someone to not be alive anymore as it goes through their face. Oh.
Just as Capcom said it would, Resident Evil 7 has combat, and judging from the list of weapons available, it won’t be a case of you roaming around with a peashooter with one bullet. The game will include pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives and chainsaws, because everyone loves an old-fashioned chainsaw.
It also has swearing. Won’t somebody please think of the children?
