Horizon: Forbidden West PS4 & PS5 Editions Explained

These editions should really be Forbidden.

Hot off the heels of the announcement at Gamescom 2021 that Horizon Forbidden West will launch on PS4 and PS5 on February 18th, 2022, pre-orders have now opened for the game with Sony and Guerrilla Games detailing the different editions you can get hold of. However, there’s some controversy surrounding the different versions. Here’s all the details and explanations you need to know for Horizon Forbidden West’s different editions.

Horizon Forbidden West Pre-Order Bonus

Horizon Forbidden West

Price: Varies

– Nora Legacy Outfit and Spear

You’ll receive both of these items from pre-ordering the game from specific retailers, or digitally before release. It’s worth noting that you may still get these items after release when buying physically, depending on how stocks last.

Horizon: Forbidden West Digital Deluxe Edition

Horizon Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West

Price: $80/£80

– Horizon Forbidden West (Digital) PS4 and PS5 versions
– 2 Special Outfits (Carja Behemoth Elite and Nora Thunder Elite)
– 2 Special Weapons (Carja Behemoth Short Bow and Nora Thunder Sling)
– In-game Resources Pack including ammunition, potions, and travel packs
– In-game Apex Clawstrider Machine Strike Piece
– Exclusive Photo Mode pose and face paint
– Digital Art Book
– Digital Soundtrack
– Digital Version of The Sunhawk, the first Horizon Zero Dawn graphic novel
– Nora Legacy Outfit & Spear (via pre-order)

It’s worth noting here that the Digital Deluxe Edition is the only way to obtain Dual Entitlement for Horizon Forbidden West, as there are no plans to offer an update in the future according to the FAQ. Neither the standard or special editions have an option or path for Dual Entitlement, so if you want the game on both PS4 and PS5, you’re going to have to shell out. Save games will be transferable from PS4 to PS5 though.

Horizon Forbidden West Special Edition

Price: $70/£60 (PS4) | $80/£70 (PS5)

– The full game on disc
– Mini art book
– Digital Soundtrack
– Nora Legacy Outfit & Spear (via pre-order)

As physical special editions go, this one’s a bit naff really. For the same price on PS5 (at least in the US), you get a lot more to play with in the Digital Deluxe Edition, so it feels like either Sony are looking to encourage players to purchase the DDE anyway, or, if we’re being lenient, they want to ensure PS5 Digital Edition owners aren’t being short-changed.

Horizon Forbidden West Collector’s Edition

Horizon Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West

Price: $200/£170

– Horizon Forbidden West (Digital) PS4 and PS5 versions
– Horizon Forbidden West SteelBook Display Case (Download code for the game will be supplied via voucher in the box.)
– A custom sculpted Tremortusk and Aloy statue (Statues will require some assembly; detailed instructions will be provided with the box!)
– Mini Art Book
– 2 Special Outfits (Carja Behemoth Elite and Nora Thunder Elite)
– 2 Special Weapons (Carja Behemoth Short Bow and Nora Thunder Sling)
– In-game Resources Pack including ammunition, potions, and travel packs
– In-game Apex Clawstrider Machine Strike Piece
– Exclusive Photo Mode pose and face paint
– Digital Soundtrack
– Digital Version of The Sunhawk, the first Horizon Zero Dawn graphic novel

There’s certainly a lot of bang for your buck with this collection, but one particular sticking point is the fact that the edition only offers a digital code, when big Collector’s Editions typically come with discs. Again, it’s alright for Digital Edition PS5 owners still looking to splash the cash, but there should be the option of physical for those who want it.

Horizon Forbidden West Regalla Edition

Price: $260/$230

– Horizon Forbidden West (Digital) PS4 and PS5 versions
– Horizon Forbidden West SteelBook Display Case (Download code for the game will be supplied via voucher in the box.)
– A Regalla-themed, custom sculpted Tremortusk and Aloy statue (Statues will require some assembly; detailed instructions will be provided with the box!)
– Replica Focus and custom stand
– 2 Art Print Cards
– Replica Sunwing and Clawstrider Machine Physical Strike Pieces
– Mini Art Book
– Canvas Map
– 2 Special Outfits (Carja Behemoth Elite and Nora Thunder Elite)
– 2 Special Weapons (Carja Behemoth Short Bow and Nora Thunder Sling)
– In-game Resources Pack including ammunition, potions, and travel packs
– In-game Apex Clawstrider Machine Strike Piece
– Exclusive Photo Mode poses and face paints
– Digital Soundtrack
– Digital Version of The Sunhawk, the first Horizon Zero Dawn graphic novel

Again, like the Collector’s Edition version, the Regalla Edition only includes a digital code instead of a disc, so if you want to enjoy some cool looking statues while also supporting physical games, you’re out of luck.
