Is GTA 5 Cross-Platform?

There have been many questions regarding Grand Theft Auto 5 being playable by friends across different platforms since it release on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. As the game has been available for many years, is GTA 5 cross-platform? Will they implement this feature before GTA 6? We’ve covered all you need to know about GTA 5’s cross-platform compatibility.

GTA 5 Cross-Platform Compatibility Explained

Unfortunately, GTA 5 is unavailable as a cross-platform game across all platforms. Only PlayStation 4 players can play with PlayStation gamers, and Xbox players can only play with Xbox gamers. The same applies to PC, meaning you cannot play on a PC with an Xbox player or an Xbox player with a PC player.

This has disappointed many players, as the game has been online for almost ten years. Players have switched from one console to another as technology has adapted and upgraded since 2013, which is why many have expected Rockstar Games to make cross-platform available on Grand Theft Auto 5 eventually.

Due to the speculated new GTA game, this might be a large reason why GTA 5’s cross-platform features haven’t yet been added. Rockstar would have to perform a significant update and cover a vast cloud space to give GTA 5 cross-play, which is a large project. For example, Rockstar has already stopped projects on other games like Read Dead Online to focus solely on the release of GTA 6. This creates an even bigger sign that GTA 5 is also not their current priority.

Is GTA 5 Cross-Generation?

Along with not being cross play, GTA 5 is also not cross generation, meaning if you are playing on a PlayStation 5, you will not come across PlayStation 4 players. Rockstar Games seem to have avoided the idea of bringing console players together in the previous games without cross generation and cross-platform features. Rest assured, we hope this will change soon.

Along with not seeing players from PlayStation 5 to 4, you also have the frustration of not coming across other players from other Xbox generations. Rockstar has not prioritised cross-platform for GTA, nor do we believe it will come soon. Since GTA 5 was created in 2013, there have been a lot of new features in video games that would require considerable changes to bring them up to date.

Where To Play GTA Online

Although there are many restrictions as to who can play together, GTA 5 is still available across multiple platforms, including the following:

– PC
– Xbox One, Xbox Series X & S
– PlayStation 4 and 5

GTA Online is no longer playable on Xbox 360 and PS3.

As long as you and your partner are playing through the same generation of platforms, you can play together without cross-platform. So, for example, if you and your friends have a PC, as long as you have the minimum requirements, you can all play together, no matter the PC or specs associated.

Although GTA 5 is not cross-platform, we can only hope they will implement it as a new feature in the upcoming GTA 6. There has been a lot of speculation about what will be upgraded in the new GTA game, with cross-platform as one of the most expected. As we wait, we can only become excited about the possibilities GTA will bring in its future.

GTA 5 is available now.
