Game of Thrones‘ final season is all set to air in 2019 and the excitement among the fans is skyrocketing. The epic fantasy series is inspired by George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novel series and there have been too many instances or characters which did not make it to the silver screen. It was recently revealed that the 69-year-old Martin discussed his desire to keep Lady Stoneheart in the show.

During his recent conversation with Esquire China, George R. R. Martin discussed Catelyn Stark’s (played by Michelle Fairley) alter ego, Lady Stoneheart, and how he wanted her to stay on the series.

“[Keeping her character] is the change I most wish I could make in the [show].”

Lady Stoneheart is one of the most prolific characters penned by George R. R. Martin for Game of Thrones. The character is a revived Lady Catelyn Stark possessing all the dark characteristics of the iconic character. After Catelyn’s death, her mutilated body was thrown into the river and it was later found by Arya Stark’s direwolf Nymeria. As she had been dead for too long, Thoros couldn’t revive her back into the living. She was later revived by Beric Dondarrion. She also assumes leadership of the Brotherhood.

Since Catelyn Stark’s throat had been slit during the Red Wedding, Lady Stoneheart can barely speak. Since Catelyn Stark was murdered at the Red Wedding, there were numerous fans of Game of Thrones who expected to see her other character as Lady Stoneheart in the future episodes of Game of Thrones.

However, it had been decided by the series’ showrunners, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, that her role won’t be included in the HBO fantasy series.

Although this decision of not including the character had been made a long time ago by the showrunners. In fact, Martin revealed he even argued with Benioff and Weiss, for removing the character from the show. In an earlier interview with Time, George R. R. Martin recalled the discussions he had about the future of the show without Lady Stoneheart.

“I think one of the biggest ones would probably be when they made the decision not to bring Catelyn Stark back as Lady Stoneheart,” he said.
