If you had told me a year ago that Alison Brie would be starring in a Netflix series about the women of wrestling, I probably would have spat out my Booty-O’s in disbelief. But here we are, in the year of our Lord 2017, and I have never wanted anything as much as this.
G.L.O.W. (The Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling) stars Alison Brie as a newcomer to the world of women’s wrestling in a time before your Sasha Banks’ and Kimber Lee’s: the 1980’s. Judging from these newly released snaps, they have nailed the period perfectly.

Brie will star as a struggling actress trying to find relevancy on the all-women wrestling promotion. Elsewhere, Marc Maron will portray a “washed up director who has a very complicated history with women – and now must lead 14 of them on the journey to wrestling stardom.”
Here’s the synopsis in full:
“Inspired by the short-lived but beloved show from the 80s, GLOW tells the fictional story of Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), an out-of-work, struggling actress in 1980s Los Angeles who finds one last chance for stardom when she’s thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women’s wrestling. In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin) a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture perfect life is not what it seems. And at the wheel is Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), a washed-up, coked-up B-movie director who now must lead 14 women on the journey to wrestling stardom. GLOW, only on Netflix June 23.”
Based on the promotion of the same name, the ten-part series will debut on Netflix on June 23. Britt Baron, Kimmy Gatewood, Rebekkah Johnson, and Kate Nash (yes, that Kate Nash) also star in what could be one of the most interesting new shows of 2017.
