Stay frosty.

The masochists over at 11 bit studios have finally announced the release date for the oppressively stress-inducing Frostpunk for PS4 and Xbox One. After a long wait, Frostpunk will finally come to consoles on October 11th.

A society survival game, Frostpunk tasks you with keeping a small group of the last survivors of a worldwide catastrophe which has plunged the planet into an eternal winter. It’s not Super Mario Sunshine, let’s just say that.

Frostpunk Senior Lead Designer, Jakub Stokalski, on the port:

“From day one we knew we wanted to bring Frostpunk to consoles. At the same time, we didn’t want it to be just a port. We wanted Frostpunk to feel like a native console experience, so we redesigned pretty much every game element to work intuitively with a gamepad. Among the new, console-specific UI changes we have an express menu for quick access to most common building actions, easy to use choice-wheels, top-down view for precise building placement, upscaled icons, and much more. We truly believe it will become a new benchmark for the genre on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.”

You build, collect resources, and try to outlast the winter, all while making some tough decisions that could end up being the end of everyone and you by murder. I lost track of the amount of times my citizens turned on me and executed me in public, but I did my best.

Frostpunk: Console Edition will cost 29.99 USD/EUR digitally and 34.99 USD/34.99 EUR/29.99 for its physical versions.

From our Frostpunk review:

“Frostpunk is a beautiful game that doesn’t shy away from the ugliness of our species, nor does it pull any punches with its difficulty. It’s an uncompromising, completely captivating affair that shouldn’t be overlooked as one of April’s best new games.”
