Empire Magazine revealed a new photo from Netflix’s upcoming Punisher series, which shows the titular Frank Castle in his pre-vigilante days while he served as a marine overseas.

Set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Punisher will consist of 13 episodes, as is customary as standard when it comes to Marvel Netflix shows. Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Castle, which he played to great acclaim in season 2 of Daredevil.

The creative freedom that Netflix gives their shows will also mean that the brutality that fans have to expect from the Punisher will be very much intact. The infamous corridor fight scene below made the ninth episode of Daredevil’s second season the first ever MCU entry to receive an 18 certificate from the British Board of Film Classification, so this incarnation of Frank Castle sure doesn’t mess around.

The Punisher will also star Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, a character who becomes the disfigured supervillain known as Jigsaw in the comics, alongside Amber Rose Revah, Daniel Webber, Jaime Ray Newman, with Deborah Ann Woll reprising her role as Karen Page from Daredevil. Paul Schulze will also appear as Rawlins, a corrupt CIA official who originally appeared as one of the main villains in the Punisher MAX comic series from Marvel’s now defunct adults-only MAX imprint.

After leading three entertaining live-action films and kicking ass in season 2 of Daredevil, Frank Castle will finally headline his own show when The Punisher airs later this year.
