Forza Horizon 5 allows players to live out the unattainable fantasy of owning multiple cars and a house. Oh, and you’re also given a safe environment with which to race fast cars without worrying about medical bills or police chases. While the cars are important to the overall process, it’s also important that you claim your own identity by customising your own avatar.

Here’s what you need to know about customising your Forza Horizon 5 character.

Forza Horizon 5 Character Customisation

After completing a short intro where you experience some of the different activities you can get involved in during Forza Horizon 5, you’ll then be prompted to customise your character. The options aren’t exactly stellar, but there’s enough there for most players to find something that looks like them, including a suite of prosthetic limb options and the ability to set your own pronouns.

Once you’ve completed this initial section and you’re able to explore Mexico proper, you can more freely customise your character, specifically the clothing and emotes associated with them. In order to do so, you need to travel to either the Horizon Festival HQ, or to any house you own in Mexico.

From here, you’ll be able to adorn your avatar in a wide array of trendy clothes or garish outfits. You’ll also be able to set your own emotes, which will play out during the loading or lobby screens while gearing up for an event, or during the results screen if you happen to finish an event in a podium position, meaning you can only have two emotes set. Choose wisely.

It’s important to note that, for clothes specifically, you can only purchase clothes of the common or rare variety, which are shown as green and blue respectively. For epic and legendary items, you’ll either need to obtain them via Wheelspins or Super Wheelspins, Horizon’s “not-a-loot-box-but-kind-of” reward system, or by completing certain tasks and challenges.

Forza Horizon 5 is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S .
