E3 2016: Too Many Leaks in the Boat?

Dead Rising 4 leaks

So we are less than a week away from E3 and every day announcements are getting revealed a little too early, it means I get to know what’s on the horizon gaming wise, but does this take some of the fanfare away from developers?

Yesterday, images of a promo poster for Dead Rising 4 were posted online, all but confirming the game’s existence, which was reportedly set to be shown for the first time during Microsoft’s E3 live show. Yes, the zombie survival hack’n’slash is back and the game itself is said to be set in Willamette, Colorado, the setting for the original Dead Rising. So could we see Frank West again? The main character does appear to be holding a camera, along with a baseball bat, the best defence against hordes of the undead. Could this be a continuation or a reboot of sorts?

Now today gave us not one, but two new leaks! Firstly, Bethesda is reportedly going to announce, Wolfenstein 2, Evil Within 2, a re-worked Prey 2 and remaster of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for Xbox One and PS4. Prey 2 was announced at E3 back in 2011, but got cancelled, now after several rumours it seems to be coming soon. Skyrim is set for a GTA 5 style re-release, with DLC and mods included, along with of course improved graphics.

Also today, Injustice 2 was revealed prematurely when a poster was posted online, coming from Gamestop, who have the poster to promote pre-ordering the game. A sequel to 2013’s DC superhero and villain fighting game akin to Mortal Kombat. The poster shows the Flash gearing up for a fight with a Kryptonite suited Batman.

The big question, though: are these leaks good?

Sure like I said, we get to know things before they officially get announced and can speculate about the game mechanics and features, but is this all pointless? The companies are going to tell everyone anyway, why do we need to be told these things a few days earlier? At least when the official confirmation of the game comes we get to know plenty about it, which we can then speculate more on than a single poster. The actual reveal also gives some more excitement to those watching the trailer for the first time, or some worth staying up until ungodly hours to watch the live stream.

We live in a world that’s overly connected, Game of Thrones can be spoiled on twitter for British people by unforgivable Americans and people can get any information they want from Google. Isn’t it worth keeping some things as a surprise until it’s shown the way the developer wants it to be seen?
