Duke Nukem 3D Remake Reportedly in the Works

Duke Nukem

As bad and widely maligned as Duke Nukem was, the bombastic exploits of Duke certainly still have their fans, plenty of whom will be probably very excited by this news. According to a leak on Reddit, Duke Nukem 3D is being remade.

As typical as it is that this could be fake, the post corroborates pretty handily with a countdown clock on the Duke Nukem website. The source claims that Nerve Software, who have previously worked on a couple of mainline Call of Duty titles, will be heading up the task of giving the game a fresh lick of paint.

Rather than playing it safe with an industry standard remaster, the remake will reportedly come with a bunch of new content and possibly opportunities for online play both in co-op and team deathmatches.

A bunch of screenshots accompanied the leak:

However, it’s worth pointing out that these images can be faked relatively easily, but they do look like the real deal. Another possible point to contend this leak on is that a countdown timer towards a remake seems a little bit underwhelming, along with Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford claiming that they were working on a altogether new game back in 2015.

Duke Nukem Forever, the last entry in the series, underperformed both critically and commercially. Nukem is one of the founding fathers of the FPS genre, so to see him fall so dramatically and the likes of DOOM being stronger than ever means that the next game could be the saviour or the killer of the franchise.
