Dean Ambrose Facing Long Layoff After Triceps Tendon Injury

Dean Ambrose faces a long spell on the sidelines after undergoing exploratory surgery on a triceps tendon injury on Tuesday.

The Grand Slam Champion and Shield member was written out of ongoing storylines when he was attacked along with Seth Rollins by Samoa Joe and The Bar after incurring the injury during a six-man tag bout earlier that night.

Ambrose had actually turned up on the night with an injury and the match had been changed accordingly.

“An MRI has shown suspicion for a high-grade triceps tendon injury, possibly a tear, so he is undergoing surgical exploration and most likely surgical repair of the torn triceps tendon,” WWE Senior Ringside Physician Dr. Chris Amann told WWE.com on Tuesday morning.

“That surgery will be happening later this evening, and we should have some further updates either later tonight or tomorrow morning as to what the findings were, what the structures that were damaged were, and also a timeline for recovery.”

Although WWE have not been averse to blurring lines by using real injuries to propel kayfabe, Dave Meltzer reports that Ambrose’s injury is genuine and Monday’s show was rewritten to accommodate it.

A lengthy absence will most likely rule him out of Wrestlemania 34 in April 2018. Ambrose – either alone or as part of The Shield – will have been earmarked for a prominent role as WWE gears up for their annual centrepiece.
