Even though it might not be open world as so many people may have believed, there’s no denying that Dead Island 2 is a still pretty large game with lots to see and do across Hell-A. With everything split into zones, it can be a little tiring to have to go through many different districts however, but luckily players can unlock fast travel to make their zombie-slaying a bit more time efficient.
To unlock fast travel in Dead Island 2, players must first get to Venice Beach. The length of time this will take depends on just how much of the overall content you decide to do, but those that are focused mostly on progressing the story should find that they arrive there in ten hours or so.
Once in Venice Beach, you’ll want to save the survivors that call out to you on a roof, after which the restaurant they’re holing up in will also become a safehouse for you and The Giant-Slayer quest will begin. You will also unlock your first Fast Travel Map, which become unlocked at every safehouse you’ve been to.
Simply interact with the map and then choose the safehouse in whichever district you’ve already been to and you can fast travel there. You can even choose the time of day for when you arrive, which is a godsend for those who are tired of fumbling around in the dark at night.
Unlocking fast travel in Dead Island 2 is by far the best way of experiencing all that Hell-A has to offer, so much so that it’s almost worth not doing much of the side content until you get it unlocked, just to save you a lot of time. You can even see the location of quests you have to complete, so it’s definitely recommended for completionists.
Dead Island 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X & S.
