While travelling around Night City has become more enjoyable (and less glitchy) with every subsequent update since its launch in 2020, we don’t all have all the time in the world to spend cruising around. Luckily, CD Projekt Red has included dozens of Dataterms across the map to allow fast travel, including in Dogtown, the new area of Pacifica finally unlocked with Phantom Liberty. However, you might be a little concerned to find that fast travel is unavailable when trying to access Dataterms at some points during your adventure in Night City.
Fast travel is unavailable in Cyberpunk 2077 at certain points when you’re in the middle of scripted events of the game’s story. For instance, when you’re told to wait for a character to call you, such as Reed in the DLC, you will have to wait around for them to call you (or just sleep away some of the time) and then fast travel will unlock after the scripted event has completed. Simply wander up to a Dataterm after your waiting is over and then fast travel should be available; if it isn’t then you may want to save and reload, or continue the mission.
While it might be a bit of an annoying hold-up for some, it does make sense that V isn’t off visiting another part of the map when they’re specifically meant to be restricted in how they get around due to instructions from their mission givers.
However, this doesn’t mean that you just have to stop doing anything at all in Night City. Not being able to fast travel gives you a good opportunity to finally tick off any gigs you’ve been putting off, hunt down some Tarot cards, or even just explore and see what’s hidden away in Night City that you may otherwise miss.
