CV ASKS: Which Bad Movie Do You Love More Than You Should?

There's something to be a said for a bad movie that lets you turn your brain off.

Resident Evil Apocalypse

Few people will ever have the exact same film tastes. While two people might (rightly) agree that Matrix Revolutions is better than Reloaded, they still might butt heads over which of the Alien movies is the best. Clue: it’s Aliens.

There are movies that have gone down in history as being groundbreaking pieces of art, those that are still talked about to this day and will so for years. And then there are movies so bad or not widely beloved that we can’t help but fall in love with.

I’m not talking about something like The Room or Birdemic, two movies which are undeniably enjoyable because they’re so bad that they almost warrant their own subgenres. No, movies that you know full well are bad, but you can’t help but watch and enjoy each and ever single time.

For me, the quintessential bad movie that I absolute adore is Resident Evil: Apocalypse. There are a few good scenes (the T-Virus’ spread through Raccoon City or the ridiculousness of Alice vs. Nemesis), but it’s still a fundamentally awful slice of cinema that I can’t help but be enamoured by. Packed with awful acting, some truly possessed editing, and a storyline that’s already bloated despite only being the second film in a franchise, Apocalypse shouldn’t be as inherently watchable as it is. If I desperately need to decompress, I just watch Milla Jovovich sprint down a building.
