CD Projekt Red Aren’t Planning To Bring Cyberpunk 2077 To Next-Gen

It'll probably be backwards compatible anyway, let's be honest.

In an interview with Gaming Bolt at E3 2019, CD Projekt Red have confirmed that they’re not currently planning to bring their long-anticipated “being mates with Keanu Reeves” simulator Cyberpunk 2077 to either next-gen consoles or the Nintendo Switch.

In the interview with Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the quest director for Cyberpunk 2077, he stated that the studio is only focused on releasing the game on PS4, Xbox One and PC at the moment and “that’s what we’re putting all our efforts into right now.” As for a potential Nintendo Switch release, Tomaszkiewicz reiterated the same sentiment. Guess we won’t be having Keanu Reeves in the palms of our hands any time soon, unfortunately.

Given what we know about the PS5 and Project Scarlett’s commitments to backwards compatibility, CD Projekt Red’s sentiment isn’t surprising. Why waste resources trying to release their game on the next-generation of hardware when it’ll probably be compatible with last generation releases in the first place? As for Switch owners, CD Projekt Red are meeting you halfway with a port of The Witcher 3, which we’re still convinced was only possible with some kind of blood magic.

What do you think? Should Cyberpunk 2077 come to the next generation of consoles? Let us know in the comments.
