Listen to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s Voice Acting in Multiple Languages

The Legend of Zelda games are fantastic and everything, but one minor issue that’s consistently been giving them a bad rap is the lack of voice acting. Apart from a few scattered words and phrases like “Link”, “listen”, “thank you”, “okay” and “goodbye”, as well as gasps, laughter, and grunts of pain, the games in the series are almost completely devoid of audible spoken dialogue.

That all changes with Breath of the Wild, in which there will indeed be full voice acting. Not only that, but in an effort to make the game appealing to the widest possible audience, there will be separate dubbing for each region. This was certainly no easy feat, but given the game’s substantial budget and development period, it was clearly within the realm of possibility. In the video below, you can listen to some of the international vocal performances. No actors have yet been listed, and while it’s doubtful that any major stars are onboard, the English vocals sounded pretty damn powerful.

Now, onto the burning question that’s been on everyone’s minds: will Link, a normally silent protagonist, also be flapping his lips in the game? Honestly, we don’t know at this point, but I think it’s likely that Nintendo will choose to have him keep his trap shut. It just won’t seem right for a character who hasn’t spoken a word in thirty-one years, not even in the form of text, to suddenly start blabbering away.

I guess we’ll know for sure when The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild arrives on both the Switch and the Wii U on 3 March 2017.
