Borderlands 3 Release Date Possibly Leaked, Could Be Epic Games Store Exclusive

I'm sure that'll go down well.

Borderlands 3

After their weird livestream last week announcing the existence of Borderlands 3, Gearbox promised that we would receive more details about the game on April 3rd, the same day as they’re releasing 4K updates for Borderlands 1, 2 and The Pre-Sequel on modern platforms, but they might have given the game away a bit too early.

A now deleted tweet from yesterday found by Wario64 suggests that Borderlands 3 will be released on September 13th 2019, and that according to a deleted Twitter video, the game’s PC version will launch exclusively on the Epic Games Store. I’m sure that’ll go down swimmingly with everyone.

Those on the ResetEra forums who picked this up pointed out that, because this was tweeted on April Fool’s Day, it should be taken with a pinch of salt, but because the tweets have been deleted, pretty much everyone has come to the conclusion that it’s real and the release date will be confirmed properly tomorrow, April 3rd. IGN also reached out to Gearbox and 2K about the issue, and received a simple picture of a psycho shrugging, which seems like the biggest confirmation that someone messed up and leaked the release date early that you could possibly get.

Interestingly, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has been tweeting about the story, stating that the decision of exclusives and publishing falls to 2K, and they’re “*just* the talent”. He also alludes to the idea of timed exclusivity, saying that “exclusives are fine when they come w/ advantages and when they are short – say, six months”.

Even more curiously, Pitchford ends his thread supporting Epic’s leadership in cross platform play aligning with Gearbox’s interests, which could mean Borderlands 3 will support cross-platform play in some capacity, which would be huge for the series. In any case, with a bigger reveal scheduled for tomorrow, we won’t have to wait long to find out. Are you excited for Borderlands 3? Let us know in the comments.
