Deadline is reporting that two-time Academy Award winner Ben Affleck has his next directorial effort on the docket, and it sounds fascinating. The film will be centered around an ex-cop who rigged the famous McDonald’s Monopoly game and wound up stealing $24 million dollars from customers. This true story was first reported a few days prior on The Daily Beast.

Matt Damon is set to star in the film with the script being written by Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Damon and Affleck will also serve as producers on the project, and it will be released through 20th Century Fox.

But what is more interesting about the story is that 20th Century wasn’t the only studio interested. Listen to these other teams who were bidding for the rights to the project: Universal wanted Kevin Hart for their version, Warner Brothers was looking at Crazy, Stupid Love directors John Requa and Glen Ficarra to re-team with Steve Carell, who would star, and Netflix had Robert Downey, Jr., Susan Downey, and Todd Phillips prepared as producers on their version, and we can assume RDJ would also have an interest in starring as well.

No word yet on when production could begin on the film, but I think we’re all down for a reunion of Damon and Affleck, whether that’s in front of the camera or just behind it.
