Assassin’s Creed Origins: What We Know So Far

A supposed image from the new instalment of the Assassin’s Creed franchise has recently surfaced on Reddit and people are going nuts for it.

What do we know so far?
From the image, we can see that it is clearly based in Ancient Egypt, as rumours first said and it is set 3000 years before the events of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. We know this because the mission title on the screen reads ‘follow Shadya to Khemut’s villa’.

Assassin's creed origins

It has been documented by historians that Khemut was the Queen of Egypt from 2375 BC to 2345 BC, which puts it a long time before the events of the other games.

The main character is also of unknown sex and is armed with a bow and arrow with a shield strapped to their back. There also seems to be the inclusion of a boat, which tells us that they are still following a similar format to Black Flag.

Very interesting.

What does this mean?
This could mean a lot of things, but possibly the one that seems more likely right now is that Ubisoft are trying to reset the Assassin’s Creed universe to possibly guide it into a different direction. With the trainwreck that followed Unity and the movie bombing in cinemas, it is no wonder that they are trying to shape it back up.

It’s not hard to see why Ubisoft are including elements from Black Flag as it has been the most successful inclusion in the series in recent years and with the other games in the series now going backward compatible, it is all gearing up for a big release.

Last year was the first year since 2009 that a new instalment hasn’t hit our shelves, and with the relatively underwhelming success and the insane amount of criticism for the other games released instead, Ubisoft will want to play it safe this year.

As you would imagine, any other details are extremely hard to come by on the web, but if Ubisoft have anything to show off, they will at E3 2017 in a few weeks time.
