Imagine my surprise when I was eagerly on my way towards downloading the new Batman Telltale game on the PlayStation Store when I noticed a familiar game had just appeared out of nowhere. Ape Escape 2 is now on the PS4, priced at £7.99 in the UK, and £5.99 for PS Plus subscribers.

Fourteen years after its initial release on PS2, Ape Escape 2 comes with all the little things that help Sony to justify the relatively steep price for such an old game. Full trophy support, Share Play, screen sharing, and Remote Play have all been added to the classic.

Ape Escape 2 came out during a period when the PS2 was almost drowning in platformers, and the critical reception reflected that. Eurogamer gave it a 6 and Famitsu only mustered a 32 our of possible 40, but IGN thought SIE’s sequel was almost perfect, giving it a 9 out of 10.

Now if they could just release a full game based on this, that would be swell.
