Aaron Paul Turns Your Xbox One On

Xbox One

Social Media has gone a little wild since the new Xbox One advert has caused some interesting disruptions. In the advert, Aaron Paul says “Xbox One On” turning the console in the advert on. The only issue is that some inadvertent viewers of the advert were finding their consoles being turned on too, oops!

One Reddit user posted: So I was just watching TV when the new Xbox one commercial with Aaron Paul comes on. I tune it out and that’s when I hear him say “Xbox On” and then a little chime from my Xbox. Hopefully this commercial doesn’t air that often otherwise I’ll have to disable that feature.”

Whilst another replied: Funny I was watching that commercial snapped and he said record that and my Xbox did. Ha funny stuff.”

It’s not just Reddit, Twitter has also had an array of reactions too:

Crazy stuff. Apparently Xbox have used voice commands in their adverts before without this effect happening. It kind of begs the questions, is this just the awesome power of Aaron Pauls voice? OR is it a brilliantly clever marketing  ploy by Microsoft? After all, it coincides perfectly with this years E3 and there have been no big console announcements this year. Unlike last years huge Xbox One v Playstation 4 war which did appear to convert a lot of Xbox players to Playstation fans. Maybe Microsoft just felt the need to go “Yes, hi, we’re here!”

The ability to go viral has become a really key part of many marketers campaigns, whether it be through YouTube or a cleverly written hashtag. Take for example the #realmendontbuy girls campaign. Or how many of you, despite not living in its country of origin, have seen the hilarious Panda Cheese adverts? (Hint: If you haven’t go youtube them right now, you won’t be disappointed!) As marketing gets smarter, we find adverts on line where we have to choose what advert we are subjected to so who knows what the next step might be for consoles in our home. Personally, I’m waiting on the day monkeys come out of my tv and perform elaborate acrobatics whilst can can dancers give me free samples of the product.

Unfortunately I think that’s a long way off.

What do you guys think? Are Microsoft crossing boundaries? Was this all a happy mistake? Has your XboxOne been driving you round the bend by turning itself on? (Then maybe you should have got a better console!)
