The Xbox and Bluehole exclusivity deal over the console release of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been one of Xbox’s biggest feathers in their cap, and whilst that deal will inevitably expire, rumours are circulating that it could happen later rather than sooner.
If the sources over at Bloomberg are to be believed, Bluehole are “likely” to extend the amount of time where Xbox is the sole console that can play PUBG. The game is scheduled to drop on Xbox later this year, and it is speculated that it could be exclusive until the middle of next year or perhaps longer.
This news has emerged a day after the news that the South Korean team is also in talks with Sony about bringing the smash hit game to PS4. Whether or not this Xbox exclusivity extension is valid or not, it’s fair to say that Bluehole are keeping their options open. As owners of one of the hottest properties in the gaming industry, they effectively hold all the cards at the negotiating table, and it’ll be interesting to see how this story develops in the coming weeks.
Microsoft have denied to comment on talks with Bluehole, stating they have nothing to announce at this time, whilst Bluehole CEO Chang Byung-gyu has said that the company has “had talks with all the major console companies”. Maybe tomorrow we’ll be reporting on the potential of a Nintendo Switch release, giving players the ultimate dream of murdering 99 other players whilst squatting on the shitter.
