No Man’s Sky’s Marketing Applauded For Not Using “Sky’s the Limit”

Wherever gamers have been looking for the past three years, No Man’s Sky has been there. Whether it’s a listicle suggesting ten planets to name after ten John Belushi characters, 65daysofstatic explaining why they’re so pretentious, or Sean Murray trying to stop the hype train from killing him and everything he loves, No Man’s Sky has been marketed exceptionally well.

The team at Hello Games have today been applauded for refusing to use the tagline “the sky’s the limit” to promote the game by everyone on the internet.

Instead of opting to use an acoustic cover of the Notorious B.I.G classic that you will usually hear in Asda in a moody, atmospheric trailer, the game’s marketing has done everyone a great service by fucking that off completely, breaking the status quo for other marketers everywhere.

Smiggles2424 on YouTube said: “You guys are GENIUSES. Creating an entire galaxy to explore as well as subverting tropes of modern game promotion? Pre-ordered, there’s no way I can be disappinted.

In response, fellow YouTuber DanMan60 said: “haha if this game isn’t everything I wished it would be people are going to die haha”

Speaking to Cultured Vultures, industry expert Samuel Harvine said of No Man’s Sky’s brave marketing:

“When I didn’t hear a piano playing a single note over and over, or even see fade to blacks at a one per frame ratio that we’re all so used to, I was really concerned for the success of No Man’s Sky. But when they didn’t resort to a cliche tagline to sell holiday parks? That’s when they got my attention.

“I tried to convince them to have Snoop Dogg turn up to do a guest track for the soundtrack, but they weren’t keen on that. I asked Sia as well; she said the only galaxy she had to explore was her own soul.”

No Man’s Sky is out today and will definitely not fail to match the unrealistic expectations of anyone at all.
