Witchfire Set To Launch in Early Access This September

Let's go.

Witchfire

The Astronauts’ upcoming shooter Witchfire has been on our radar for a long time now, so naturally we’re excited to learn that the game will be launching into Early Access on the Epic Games Store on September 20th, 2023.

Developed by the creators of games like Painkiller, Bulletstorm and What Remains Of Edith Finch, Witchfire is a dark fantasy roguelite FPS that follows a war between powerful covens of witches and the Vatican itself. You control a witch hunter referred to as a “preyer”, you’ll wield a huge variety of magical guns and weapons against the hordes of darkness.

Due to the game’s early access launch, The Astronauts have confirmed that the initial version of Witchfire will be focused more on the gameplay than anything else. However, future updates to the game will new lore and story elements being added in the run up to the game’s full release.

Adrian Chmielarz, Creative Director and Co-Founder of The Astronauts, spoke to Epic Games News and remarked the following about Witchfire’s gameplay: “The last few trailers were very combat focused and I think gave the wrong impression that Witchfire is a non-stop action fest. It is not. Sure, some fights will be incredibly intense, but there are also periods of quiet exploration, planning, thinking. It is much closer to Souls in that regard rather than, say, Doom.”
