Spiritfarer Is Thunder Lotus’ New Game About Accepting Death

As all games should.

Spiritfarer

You might have been too busy hyperventilating after seeing Keanu Reeves take to the stage at E3 2019 to notice a new indie title from the guys at Thunder Lotus, who you might remember as the hand-drawn wizards behind Jotun and Sundered.

Spiritfarer is a side-scrolling “cozy management game about dying” that sees you caring for spirits on a boat of your making as you escort them on their way to the afterlife. And who said indie development is “stagnant”?

“In Spiritfarer, you play Stella, ferrymaster to the deceased. Build a boat to explore the world, then befriend and care for spirits before finally releasing them into the afterlife. Farm, mine, fish, harvest, cook, and craft your way across mystical seas. Join the adventure as Daffodil the cat, in two-player cooperative play. Spend relaxing quality time with your spirit passengers, create lasting memories, and, ultimately, learn how to say goodbye to your cherished friends.”

Spiritfarer will release in 2020 for Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch; it will also be included for Game Pass on Xbox and PC.
